- Pineapples – The Cacadu District is currently home to an emergent pineapple industry. This industry is currently undergoing a revitalization process that will aid in further growing this sector of the economy.
- Aquaculture – The Cacadu District Municipality has identified aquaculture as a priority investment sector due to its vast growth potential and a significant global demand.
- Chicory - The chicory plant is chiefly characterised by its ability to enhance and retain the aroma and taste of coffee and to also strengthen the mixture. All roasted chicory produced in South Africa is cultivated within a 200 km radius of the town of Alexandria. Chicory South Africa, located in Alexandria, is the only processor of chicory in the country. The processing plant in Alexandria has been operational for over 50 years.
- Citrus – The citrus industry within the Cacadu District is largely located in the Sundays River Valley with the small town of Kirkwood considered as the citrus capital of the Eastern Cape.
- Dairy – The Eastern Cape produces approximately 30% of the South African milk output, with farmers operating within the Cacadu District supplying 20% of this output.
- Honeybush - Honeybush is an indigenous plant found within the fynbos region and is exclusive to South Africa. It is used to produce a uniquely flavoured, herbal tea.
- Leather - The agro-processing industry within the Cacadu District is dominated by the production of leather and leather-related goods. These leather products are mainly used in the export orientated automotive industry in the Eastern Cape, while a considerable amount is also exported to markets in Italy and Asia.
- Livestock - Livestock farming within the Cacadu District is largely attributed to the farming of cattle, sheep and goats. The mixed veld types of the Eastern Cape present a competitive advantage for livestock activities. The province generates the greatest volume of livestock farming within the country.
- Mohair - The Eastern Cape Province is the largest producer of mohair in South Africa, contributing approximately three quarters of the nation’s current production. Within the province, the Cacadu District accounts for over 50% of South Africa’s total market share.
- Ostrich - The ostrich is an endemic bird of African origin that is suited for rearing in areas of the Cacadu District. The main market for ostrich meat lies in export. There are currently only 7 export ready commercial ostrich farmers.
